Analysis of the brief

Language
I have been looking at several college magazines and have noticed some connotations which i should use. The connotations i will use in my college magazine are; a masthead, cover lines, taglines and a photograph which is a medium close up. these have been on all the magazines i have so far looked at.

Institute
The institute i am doing my magazine about is Wyke College. I have decided that the institute is about wyke college because i attend wyke college myself so i know alot more about it than other colleges. Wyke has over 1300 students attending so this means i have a large target audience.

Ideology
Wyke college has the ideology of respect to all, equal opportunity to all and no bad behaviour tolerated. Wyke college also likes to come across that they like to help there students gain more prospects from life. Hard work is rewarded at wyke so this should come across in my magazine. This also needs to be easily recognised so wyke students are aware of the ideology.

Audience
Most college magazines are aimed at the students who attend the college but occasionally can be aimed at the parents and other people. Wyke college is a sixth form college so the students are aged 16-19. I have decided this will be my target audience. 65% of the students which attend wyke college are female therefore my magazine will be aimed towards females.

Representation
The photograph i choose to use on the front of my college magazine needs to be suitable for the current students and also future students to relate to. This means the photograph i choose cannot give a bad representation of the college therefore i will have to decide carefully about which photograph to use as this will be the first thing the readers see's when they look at the magazine. i also need my coverlines to be interesting and exciting so the reader does not loose interest before they have even open the magazine.
